NHT106: SKY – Carillon

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

UK-Australian unit SKY was a bit of an anomaly when they launched themselves onto the world in late 1970’s.

Here was a group consisting of members from the crème dela crème of the musical world. Essentially all virtuoso’s on their instruments, joining together to present their own take on pop music.

As a result, they did receive a fair degree of criticism simultaneously from classical musical purists as well as the street-cred crowd.

However, at the same time they attracted a mass of fans from far and wide. It is arguable if we will ever see the likes of a band like SKY again.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

  1. Short note, to assist people who may be searching for it, it’s called Carillon , not Carillion (just one i) from the old musical term for a peal of bells – in a later live performance, Sky did actually play it on bells and percussion, as an encore at their Drury Lane gig – it’s on YouTube)

Thanks very much for that Richard – I have to admit to being blind to that from the very start! Great pick up and thanks again for sharing.
