NHT080: AMBIENT ORCHESTRA – Frog’s Eye

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

One of the many things that I love about music is when you stumble upon something that turns out to be very special.

Acting on an inkling, I went to see a live performance of the AMBIENT ORCHESTRA (admittedly that inkling came from reading that they were to present a classical musical take on artists like ROBERT FRIPP and BRIAN ENO. Intriguing).

They also played this track, one written by the band leader, EVAN ZIPORYN that I happened to be able to find on the internet. This is not bombastic classical music, this is spacious and minimalist.

See if it appeals.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT079: THE MONKEES – The Porpoise Song

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Often when people think of THE MONKEES they think of the US TV show based around the comedic antics of a band that mimicked The Beatles but whose members did not actually write their own songs or play their instruments.

That particular label may have been close to the truth when they began but the producers unknowingly created a beast in so much as the individual members, employed for their acting, did have musical talent and got more and more involved.

What began as the representation of crafty pop songs, soon morphed into active involvement in the creation of experimental and diverse works.

Here is one track, and it is as psychedelic as the best of them.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT078: GROOVE TERMINATOR – You Are Here

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Australian electronic music artist, Simon Lewicki, aka GROOVE TERMINATOR has been at the top of his game for a long time.

He was a part of the ever expanding dance music genre in the 90s. This was as part of a small band of pioneering DJs looking to innovate where they could.

He was also a member of the Ministry of Sound family which was itself was electronic dance music royalty.

Todays track comes, a chill classic from the early 2000s comes from that period.

Keep an eye out for him now – he curates and tours the Ministry of Sound Orchestrated event (orchestral versions of house, rave and club classics) around major venues.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT077: THE CURE – Sinking

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

THE CURE probably require no introduction.

Formed in 1976, they are still going strong.

Although closely associated with the goth rock genre, that is unfairly limiting. Robert Smith and his team were unafraid of trying their hand across many genres, often with great success.

I chose this song to represent them as I think it contains a lot of what made THE CURE great – uplifting yet sad, bright yet dark.

See what you think.

I hope that you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke
