NHT097: MACHINATIONS – Transient

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Some albums can become incredibly important for us as people – they find a way to mark, even define a significant event or period in our lives forever. Such is the case for me with the Esteem album by Australian band MACHINATIONS.

I discovered this band at a very low period in my life when my sports career was ended due to a serious accident. It is not an over estimation to say that listening to this album gave me happiness that I wasn’t otherwise feeling at that time in my life.

Still to this very day, I marvel at the wonderful creativity and positivity that the album contains – this is independent dance pop at its very, very best. You might find that too.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT096: BETH ORTON – Galaxy Of Emptiness

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

It can be said that some artists have that ability to find a sweet spot.

Intentionally or not, they embrace a style of music which may not have necessarily been heard before.

I think that is the case with UK musician BETH ORTON. ORTON combined her folk leanings and infused them with electronica to produce a really modern and original sound.

And the world responded! See what you think.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

NHT095: MAX WEBSTER – Battle Scar

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

We are upping the ante this week – this is some heavy music, and this is two bands for the price of one.

Although released by Canadian band MAX WEBSTER, the members of the band RUSH are also involved – not merely as guest musicians but with all members of both bands going hard at it simultaneously.

MAX WESBTER may not have received the same critical acclaim worldwide as RUSH but if you investigate their back catalogue, it is extensive, clever and very diverse. Todays track is a heavy one, but they are a lot more than a one trick pony!

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT094: CRASH TEST DUMMIES – Get You In The Morning

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

I really admire bands who keep pushing themselves stylistically – particularly if they have just experienced a period of significant success. I presume that there would be a lot of pressure placed on them from all corners to keep things as they are.

I am thinking that Canadian band CRASH TEST DUMMIES are a really good example of this. They achieved some great success straight up in their native country and the US with their folk tinged music. Then they took over the world with their single Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm with its more pop orientated focus.

By the release of todays track and the electronica fused album it came from, they had really undertaken a significant musical journey.

Bravo, I say.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke
