Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

I think that all of us grow up with that special artist or special album or even that special song – we are happy to share it with our friends but there is some kind of relationship that we have with it that is all our very own.

So it was with me when I heard Matt Johnsons first THE THE album, THE SOUL MINING. It made a powerful connection and has remained a favourite ever since.

THE THE went on to achieve worldwide success but there is just something about this album. The lyrics are dark, bleak and full of angst yet the music is effectively the exact opposite, vibrant, alive and positive.

And that is no small achievement.
