Welcome to NEVER HEARD THAT.

For some reason that I can’t validate, I had some pre-conceived notion that I wasn’t a fan of US band GRANT LEE BUFFALO, when I first heard todays feature track Mockingbirds.

I think it was by some mental association with a style of music that I wasn’t really into – as I started listening to the track, it didn’t take very long for me to realise that I had got it all wrong.

I had a copy of the supporting EP in my hands within a few short days!

Welcome to NEVER HEARD THAT.

I have to be honest and say that I didn’t know a lot about New Zealand band HEADLESS CHICKENS before I heard the single Cruise Control from their second album Body Blow, released in the early 90’s.

That song appealed to me, but when I heard today’s feature track, Juice, I was blown away.

When vocalist Fiona McDonald scats over the top of the verse, I feel like I am hearing musical perfection. I could happily put it on loop and listen to it all day.

See if it makes you feel the same way!

Welcome to NEVER HEARD THAT.

English artist CAPTAIN SENSIBLE achieved some pretty impressive things during his time in the musical limelight – particularly in the late 70’s and the early 80’s.

Firstly, as a member of The Damned which achieved a whole swag of ‘punk’ firsts (even before more well-known punk bands like The Sex Pistols and The Clash).

Then secondly as a solo artist where his cheekiness and humour were well received.

This one has serious undertones though; it is an anti-war song that really hits the mark.

Psychedelic Rock began in the 60’s and was synonymous with hallucinogenics and the counter culture of the time.

The idea was for the music to enhance your mind-altering experience.

Todays feature group WOODEN SHJIPS are a much more recent band but they capture the spirit of the 60’s in their music.

Close your eyes and let them take you on a sonic journey!
