NHT117: SWIRL – Time

Hi,

Welcome to NEVER HEARD THAT.

Losing a foundation member can be and has been the death knell for many bands.

Often it leaves the remaining members unsure of what to do next – so much work has already been done and trails blazed, that effectively you almost have to start all over again.

Others like Australian band SWIRL use it as an impetus for change. Version two of the band wasn’t around for a long time but they were certainly different to version one and they left us with this little gem as a reminder.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT116: STONE TEMPLE PILOTS – Press Play

Hi,

Welcome to NEVER HEARD THAT.

This weeks feature track by US band STONE TEMPLE PILOTS is a short one – but it is an important one.

The lead song off their third album, it signified that this was a band that was seriously growing from their hard rock / grunge foundation and broadening their musical palette.

The rest of the album certainly confirmed that, showing them at their playful and inventive best.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT115: GOLDFRAPP – Deep Honey

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

I think that is must help when you have a few strings in your musical bow.

Todays feature duo, GOLDFRAPP, have that.

They can tip their hand to cabaret, to pure dance, and across ambient chill.

That gives the listener a nice plate where they can take it all or pick and choose.

I am most fond of their ambient works and I have chosen one of them today.

I hope you enjoy this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

Cheers, Andrew Muecke

NHT114: ALEX DE GRASSI – Western

Hi,

Welcome to this weeks NEVER HEARD THAT.

I think we all appreciate that being taught, coached or mentored from an early age gives us a great chance to become very, very good at our craft.

With associated hard work and persistence, we can become professional – a lucky few will even be deemed experts in their field.

Without question, todays feature artist, ALEX DE GRASSI is an expert at the guitar. To discover that he is self-taught is absolutely extraordinary.

I challenge you not to be impressed with this eloquent and expressive track from another Windham Hill artist!

Cheers, Andrew Muecke
